Barbecued Pork Sandwich

A tasty, nutritious hot sandwich prepared with ground pork and ingredients from the cupboard like tomato catsup and tomato paste.

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 3/4 cup catsup
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup chopped celery
  • 3/4 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1 1/4 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 split hamburger buns

In large heavy skillet over medium-high heat; brown pork until pink color disappears. Remove meat and set aside. Drain excess fat. In same pan, combine catsup, tomato paste, onion, celery, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar and garlic powder. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Return pork to pan; simmer 10 to 15 minutes more. Meanwhile, toast cut sides of hamburger buns. Arrange bottom halves on serving plates. Portion 1/2 cup meat mixture onto each half. Replace top halves. Serve hot.
